More than 10 million females and one million males suffer from eating disorders including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Many of these sufferers exhibit symptoms such as obsessions with food, weight and appearance. These obsessions can be strong enough to disrupt an individual’s daily activities, relationships or physical health. Many are ashamed of their problems and hide them, while others may deny they have a problem at all.
